Nubra
Overview
Nubra Valley is one of Ladakh’s most visited valleys. The valley, known for its panoramic landscapes, provides the most breathtaking views. The valley is about 120 kilometers from Leh, and its average elevation is around 10,000 feet or 3048 Mtrs above sea level. Nubra Valley is a must-see in Ladakh, especially if you visit here for the first time. It is one of Ladakh’s sub-districts, located in the northeast, with Diskit Village as its main headquarters.
Due to the valley’s proximity to the border, Indian tourists require an ILP (Inner Line Permit), and foreign nationals require a PAP (Protected Area Permit) to visit. Mostly, people halt here to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness. It is caused by lower oxygen levels at high altitudes and may result in headaches, nausea, or body ache. It is best to acclimatize here for a day before heading further.
The charisma of this valley will leave you speechless with its massive mountains, roughed lands, barren landscapes, monasteries, charming villages, and desert. It is worthwhile to spend hours on this road. It gives you a surreal feeling as you witness nature’s wonders. This Instagram-worthy destination provides you with many colors to capture with your camera. Whether you are a tourist, a seasoned traveler, a photographer, or a biker, this valley will leave you mesmerized, dazed, and charmed by its incredible natural mystery.
There are numerous hotels, homestays, and guest houses in the valley. Because Diskit is the headquarters, it has the greatest number of accommodations. There are also guesthouses in Hunder, Sumur, and Panamik. You can also stay in a desert camp in Hunder.
Nubra Valley is closed in cold snow conditions from November to March. In April, apricot flowers bloom throughout Nubra Valley. Then there are the months of May, June, July, and August, which are the busiest months for tourists in Ladakh. All accommodation options are open with full staff and support during these months of the year, even in Nubra Valley.
Tourists mostly arrive in September, and early October as the cold weather sets in and accommodations begin to fill up. Thus, it is an adequate time to visit Nubra Valley to witness the full glory of Ladakh’s burning colors, with clouds floating like candies in the blue sky. The colors are truly magical at this time of year, and with fewer tourists, you can get better hotel deals and enjoy more.
